Invisible Kisses

If there was ever one
Whom when you were sleeping
Would wipe your tears
When in dreams you were weeping;
Who would offer you time
When others demand;
Whose love lay more infinite
Than grains of sand.

These are the opening lines of Lemn Sissay’s poem ‘Invisible Kisses’. Sissay is a British playwright, poet and author who boldly declares on his website that he is the only person in the world named Lemn Sissay. If you ran a Google search the results that would come up would all be about him. They would tell you that he was first poet commissioned to write for the 2012 Olympics.  His poem “Spark Catchers” was etched into a Transformer on The Olympic Site Poetry doesn’t just belong in ‘inner circles’ of literary fans and critics. It can and should transverse across arenas never before thought of such as sport.

The theme this year’s Storymoja Hay Festival is ‘Imagine the World’  With inspiring writers and performers such as Lemn Sissay making an appearance at the festival from 13th to 16th September, 2012 at the Nairobi National Museum, our theme will definitely be realized.
